AMURT team supports Cyclone Idai survivors in Mozambique

Cyclone Idai crashed into Mozambique on March 14, causing catastrophic flooding which has killed more than 500 people in the country and affected over 1 million survivors. For the past week, an AMURT team has been working in partnership with the Maputo Rizwan Adatia Foundation from Maputo in distributing food and hygiene kits to some of the 90,000 Mozambicans who have taken refuge in temporary shelters. Sulawesi earthquake/tsunami 2018

The disaster in Indonesia has claimed 2,100 fatalities and 680 are still missing. Moreover, 68,451 houses were damaged or destroyed displacing 222,986 people. AMURT Indonesia supports the disaster recovery by training kindergarten teachers in trauma reduction, self-care and creative activities for the children once they come back to school.

Hurricane Maria response – Puerto Rico

AMURT & AMURTEL distributed basic supplies to people affected by Hurricane Maria near Anasco town on the western coast of Puerto Rico. We worked in collaboration with the University of Puerto Rico (Mayaguez) and a local organization, Brigada Solidaria del Oeste.

Syria Refugee Crisis

AMURT has been active in Lebanon since 2012 supporting Syrian refugees and vulnerable Lebanese host communities. Since 2015 the focus has been creating a pathway to education, providing psycho-social support and giving youth a chance for self-expression and supporting their struggle for livelihoods. Read more

Harvey and Irma hurricane response

Harvey began as a major category four hurricane – the first to make landfall in the US in 12 years. It triggered flooding and many areas could be uninhabitable for months. AMURT has volunteers in the area and are appealing for cash donations.

Nepal earthquake response 2015-2017

AMURT has been instrumental in normalizing school life for over a thousand students after the traumatizing 2015 earthquake. The initial focus was to make the schools useable again, so AMURT retrofitted 25 damaged classrooms, and rebuilt four new classrooms, in 13 schools. Read more
