AMURT and AMURTEL volunteers are heading towards southern USA where hurricane Katrina wrecked havoc in several states.

Monsoon Flood Relief in India
In the first week of August AMURT and AMURTEL teams served thousands of meals
and distributed relief goods in various areas in and around Mumbai.

Aceh Update
Our relief efforts in Aceh Province continue to show good progress in our eighth
month of operation.
The Kinder Not Hilfe funding agency has agreed to fund three joint projects with
AMURT namely two kindergartens and a school cum hostel for children with special
needs at a total cost of $600,000.
The Sun newspaper of Malaysia has provided funding of RM 300,000 ($75,000) which
we will use to renovate 3 primary schools. The Penang Overseas Human Development
organization is providing another $10,000 to support our expanded livelihood
program for women seamstresses.
Meanwhile our organic farming project in Aceh Barat district received funding
from the Spanish Red Cross and Caritas Germany totaling $500,000 for livelihood
recovery project involving 629 farmers.
These are some of the 150 children in the School for Special Needs Children in
Jantho, Aceh Besar where AMURT with funding from the German NGO Kinder Not Hilfe
(KNH) will build a hostel as well as repair their school damaged by the
earthquake.
The operation so far:
• More than 10,000 parcels of food, water and medicines distributed
• 2000 family resettlement kits distributed
• 45 small brick factories re-constructed or repaired.
• One new kindergarten constructed, One kindergarten and one primary
school repaired.
• Recreational kits benefiting more than 3,000 children distributed
• 945 benefited from eye camps
• 12 houses repaired.
• Sewing machines distributed for livelihood recovery for 30 women
• Counseling, child care and English classes provided in relief camp
