           Albania

Education and micro-credit 2004

Activities of AMURT in Albania are currently focused in Bathore, a village near Tirana, where the team is providing income generating and educational programs.

AMURT was registered in Albania in 1995 and was very active during the Kosovar refugee crisis of 1999. During that period AMURT workers looked after the needs of  more than 4000 refugees, providing them with food, blankets, beds and other relief materials. Members of AMURTEL ran a "Well-Baby Centre" which looked after the needs of mothers and their newborn infants.

 

           Greece

Afghan refugee crisis 2001

AMURT and AMUTEL volunteers fed Afghan refugees in Athens, Greece in the winter of 2001-2002. AMurt Hellas also sent a team to Afghanistan for several mnonths to participate in the relief work.

AMURT and AMURTEL volunteers have been active in Greece since the  1986 Kalamata earthquake. Collection  campaigns for Kurdish refugees in 1997-8 and assistance to the victims of the 1999 earthquake are some of the recent activities.

           Turkey

Earthquake Relief 1999

AMURT and AMURTEL volunteers in Turkey worked in the earthquake stricken provinces of Turkey since hours after the quake hit its northwestern provinces in 1999. AMURT in Turkey in cooperation with the Turkish Psychological Association ran a community center that provided child care and psycho-social counseling to the earthquake victims. The project have since been handed over to local organizations.
 

           Kosova

War rehabilitation 1999

AMURT
completed the  renovation of several war damaged elementary school in south western Kosova in 1999 and 2000

One of AMURT's first activities in Kosovo was the assessment of all war damaged school buildings in the Gjakova district. In coordination with Handicap International AMURT  also saw to the systematic de-mining of those schools.
