The Stories of Two Victims of War
Jonaly
Jonaly
was brought to the House of Light for Children during the war in 1998,
abandoned at 4 years of age. Before his arrival, he had moved around
from house to house nearly every day and didn't know where his parents
were. He suffered from a hernia of which he has since had operated.
Jonaly told us his mother's name, that's all we know... he has had
a lot of difficulties since he arrived at the home. These include
lack of concentration at school, bedwetting and frequent nightmares.
All these have resulted from his being abandoned and constantly changing
house. Despite this however, Jonaly gets on well enough with the other
children in the house. He plays percussion instruments with agility
and a lot of joy.
Moïsette
Upon her arrival at the childrens home, when we asked her for her
name, she whispered to us '' Moïsette''. Abandoned during the war
in 1998, she was found on the verge of starvation roaming in the middle
of the forest, by soldiers. She stayed with the soldiers in the army
until being brought to AMURT's House of Light for Children. She was
at that time 4 years old. Moïsette was severly malnourished and had
a high fever which the doctors were unable to diagnose. She was under
treatment for one and a half years. In addition Moïsette suffers from
severe depression. Her recovery is very slow and complicated and she
eats very slowly and very little. In spite of her health problems,
Moïsette doesn't seem to have been affected intellectually. In fact,
she proves to be very bright, she can be very creative, has a good
singing voice and uses it to seduce us when the mood takes her! She
is also a good little mother with the boys, even with those older
than her.
