With assistance from the Internaltional Organization for Migration (IOM), AMURT and AMURTEL have been distributing basic household equipment and supplied to tsunami survivors in the resettlement camps.

Ibu Yanti, 30, a beneficiary of our cake-making program lost her only child – a 5-year boy – in the tsunami.  In addition to making cakes for sale, she also supervises the children participating in AMURTEL’s traditional dance program at Barak Bada.

Bada Kindergarten is one of six schools that AMURT and AMURTEL are rehabilitating. Spontaneous songs and poems were the highlight of the inauguration of the new school building.

AMURTEL has provided sewing machines to 130 women tailors in the resettlement camps. Each woman owns her sewing machine once she has completed twenty school uniforms.

In Meulaboh, AMURT and Sun Spirit formed a cooperative of organic farmers with 240 members. Now other farmers are copying their techniques.
